What GFCI Does
GFCI stands for Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter. It constantly monitors the electrical current flowing through the cord. If it detects even a tiny imbalance — as small as 4–6 milliamps, which means current is leaking somewhere it shouldn't — the GFCI trips and cuts power in 25 milliseconds. That's faster than a heartbeat. It prevents electrical shock and ground fault-induced fires.
Why It Matters for Foam Events
| Scenario |
Why GFCI Protects You |
| Wet surfaces |
Foam creates standing water — GFCI prevents shock if a connection gets wet |
| Outdoor events |
Rain, sprinklers, puddles — outdoor power needs ground fault protection |
| Crowds near equipment |
Guests around electrical gear in a wet environment = GFCI is non-negotiable |
| Extension cord chains |
The GFCI cord goes between the wall outlet and your foam machine to protect the entire downstream circuit |
Why We Include It
We include a GFCI cord with every foam machine purchase because we don't want customers cutting corners on safety. This listing exists for replacements — if your cord is damaged, if you need a spare for a second rig, or if you want a backup in your gear bag.
Cord Features
-
Automatic GFCI — Auto-resets when plugged in or after a power interruption (no manual reset required for normal use)
-
3 Outlets — Pigtail triple-tap lets you power the foam machine, pump, and lighting from one protected source
-
LED Indicator — Lights up when the cord is powered so you can confirm it's live at a glance, even in low light
-
12/3 Gauge, Contractor Grade — Heavy-duty SJTW cable rated for 15A / 1875W with 600V insulation
-
Waterproof Yellow Jacket — UV-resistant, abrasion-resistant, moisture-resistant PVC, highly visible
-
UL Listed — Independently tested and certified to safety standards
Doesn't the foam machine already come with a GFCI cord?
Yes. Every SurgeFX foam machine ships with a GFCI cord included. This listing is for replacements — if your original cord gets damaged, lost, or you need an extra for a second setup.
Do I really need GFCI for a foam machine?
Absolutely. Foam machines produce water-based foam. That means wet surfaces, wet equipment, and often wet people — all near electrical power. GFCI protection is not optional. It detects ground faults and kills power in 25 milliseconds, before a shock becomes dangerous.
Why is it only 3 feet long?
The GFCI cord isn't your extension cord — it's your safety adapter. It plugs into your power source (wall outlet or extension cord), and your foam machine plugs into it. The 3-foot length keeps it close to the equipment where you can see the LED indicator and access the reset button. Use a standard outdoor extension cord for longer runs, then connect the GFCI cord at the equipment end.
Can I plug multiple things into it?
Yes — the cord has 3 outlets (pigtail triple-tap). You can power your foam machine, utility pump, and other gear from one GFCI-protected source — as long as the total draw stays under 15A / 1875W.
What does "automatic GFCI" mean?
It means the GFCI automatically resets when you plug it in or when power is restored after an outage. You don't have to manually press a reset button every time. If it trips due to an actual ground fault, check your equipment before resetting.
Can I use this with non-foam equipment?
Of course. It's a standard UL-listed GFCI extension cord rated for 15A. Use it anywhere you need ground fault protection — power tools, outdoor lighting, holiday displays, pressure washers, or any wet-environment application.
Is it actually waterproof?
The cord jacket is waterproof (yellow PVC, moisture and UV resistant). However, the plug connections themselves should not be submerged in standing water. Keep connections elevated and dry.
Always Use GFCI — No Exceptions
It doesn't matter if the venue has GFCI outlets, if you're indoors, or if it's "just a small event." If a foam machine is running, GFCI protection goes between it and the power source. Every time.
Connect It at the Equipment End
If you're running a long extension cord to your foam setup, plug the GFCI cord into the end closest to the foam machine — not at the wall. This keeps the LED indicator visible and the reset button within reach during the event.
Test Before Every Event
Press the TEST button on the GFCI before each use. The power should cut immediately. Press RESET to restore power. If the test button doesn't trip the GFCI, the cord is damaged — replace it before running the event.
Keep a Spare
A damaged GFCI cord means you can't safely run the event. At $49, keeping a backup in your gear bag is cheap insurance. If you're running multiple rigs, each one needs its own GFCI cord.
Keep Connections Off the Ground
Foam events create wet surfaces. Elevate the plug connections on a crate, bucket, or dry surface so they don't sit in standing water or foam runoff.
